Welcome to Sabor Peru, a hidden gem nestled on the second floor at 373 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell, NJ. As a food reviewer, my palate has roamed many corners of the culinary world, but few places resonate quite like this vibrant Peruvian eatery. A proud Latinx- and women-owned establishment, Sabor Peru is not merely a restaurant; it is an immersive experience that captures the heart of Peruvian culture through its genuinely crafted dishes.
Sabor Peru stands out for its commitment to authentic flavors and warm hospitality. The ambience is reminiscent of home, with an inviting and intimate setting that encourages conversation and camaraderie. Each dining area is adorned with cultural artifacts, creating a cozy, welcoming environment that feels both casual and trendy, perfect for families, groups, or a romantic dinner. As you settle into your seat, prepare to embark on a culinary journey.
One of the highlights on their extensive menu is the ceviche, which customers rave about for its freshness and depth of flavor. The Ceviche Mixto is a symphony of seafood harmoniously marinated in leche de tigre, while the Mango Ceviche adds a delightful twist, fusing sweetness with oceanic taste. With prices ranging from $18.50 to $28, these unique offerings are a must-try.
If you’re in the mood for something hearty, look no further than the Lomo Saltado, a classic Peruvian stir fry that will not disappoint. The beef or chicken is expertly combined with vegetables and soy sauce, served alongside fluffy rice. For those seeking vegan options, their Shitake Mushroom Lomo Saltado and Vegetable Chaufa showcase how effortlessly plant-based dishes can transport you to Peru without compromising flavor.
Sabor Peru also excels in appetizers, and I cannot recommend the Coconut Shrimp and Papa Rellena highly enough. The tender, sweet shrimp, enveloped in a light coconut batter, pairs perfectly with the savory stuffed mashed potato, creating a harmonious blend of taste and texture. These starters capture the essence of Pervian cooking, showcasing the country’s rich and diverse culinary landscape.
In addition to its delectable food, Sabor Peru provides an array of amenities, including outdoor seating, delivery, and vegan options, making it accessible to many. The staff embodies the same warmth and enthusiasm as the dishes they serve, ensuring each visit is memorable.
Finally, if you’re in the Caldwell area and yearning for an authentic Peruvian culinary experience, Sabor Peru is a destination you simply cannot miss. The positive reviews from patrons speak to the care and passion that go into every dish, making it not just a meal, but a delightful journey into the heart of Peru.

We are consistently impressed and in love with this place. From the chilled ceviche plates, to the fresh, tender seafood dishes, this is the place to make your own. Individually decorated rooms and a lovely owner/hostess create the ultimate neighborhood dining experience. Diana is an amazing human who is not only a young, successful, female business owner, but she is truly creative, warm and interested in spreading goodness. Get your ass here, soon. Thank me later

OMG!!! This is the most delicious ceviche- the special lobster one and the most tender and delicious grilled calamari that I have ever had!!! The ambience is fun, kitschy and super casual. If you get a chance to meet chef Diana you will recognize that her passion for the cuisine and authenticity is why the food is so good. Run, don't walk because you're gonna have to fight me for the reservation.

I love everything about this place. The owner has strong, enthusiastic love for her restaurant and deeply cares about the quality of the food and service. She's also very artistic and put so much time making the inside unique. Such warm, fun vibes. One of my favorite restaurants!

Really cool, hip spot in Caldwell for good Peruvian food. Our server knew exactly what to recommend as well when we asked about the specials, entrees, and appetizers. We had ceviche as a appetizer as well as some Maduros and they were quite tasty. I really enjoyed my main entree which was a Mofongo saltado which adds a nice Dominican fusion/flair to it. For dessert I went with the flan and espresso and I feel like you can't go wrong with that choice. My friends had the tres leches and they mentioned it was super tasty too. Not too many seats in the restaurant so make sure to call ahead and make a reservation.

After a successful escape room with the family and a good family friend, we tried authentic Peruvian cuisine at Sabor Peru to celebrate. The entrance is deceiving, as you head upstairs to the top floor, you are welcomed by a warm, inviting, home-like feel atmosphere which surprisingly fits several tables for diners. Quaintly decorated with various cultural artifacts and warm colors. The staff was also very friendly and hospitable. We tried the Calamar, assorted appetizer platter (Camarones Coco, Papa Rellena, and Huancaina), Churrasco, Mar y Tiera, Chicken Soup, A La Plancha, and Arroz Con Marisco. Everything wad delicious!

Our new favorite Peruvian restaurant! They have plenty of vegan/vegetarian options what is a plus for us since half of my family is vegetarian. I love their ceviche and my kids enjoyed the tres leches. We have been here a couple of times and the only thing I wasn't crazy about was the yucca a la huancaina. Excellent ceviche!

This restaurant is very easy to miss if you do not know about it. When you first enter it's as if you're entering someone's home as it was an apartment turned into a restaurant. Each room has a couple of tables varying in sizes for the different party sizes. It's a very picturesque spot and the ambiance is very comforting. I went with a party of 7 and we had a number of their Lima special along with the polla a lo pobre. The place is also byo so you can enjoy with your own choice of drink. I highly recommend if you're in the area. The prices are also affordable!

Let me start out by saying this restaurant has become a favorite of mine. Absolute favorite. I gave it four stars for two reasons which I'll explain, but the food is delicious the jalea an all time favorite is just so yummy! Some days they have specials like the Octopus anticucho so yummy and they have some common peruvian plates tacu tacu, papa la hauancaina (probably misspelled it lol) and more there arroz chaufa is extremely tasty I love the beef and chicken. I'm not too crazy about the ceviche the pieces just are a bit too big for my liking but either way very delicious restaurant my only two complaints are... 1. Consistency isn't always there, I love the Jalea and it's been twice that I order it and the fried fish that's part of the jalea has a disgusting smell to it like just ewww. And the rice for the arroz chaufa sometimes is a bit soggy. Not always though! 2. The customer service, it's hit or miss some days they are very attentive and other days you have to get up from your table to get the attention of the waiters who are crowded up together talking. But they are definitely an upgrade to what they used to have before. Either way I recommend you try them and let your taste buds jump with happiness this restaurant is an all time favorite because it's the only real Peruvian restaurant in New Jersey that has great flavors! Definitely a must try!

This place is a must-try in Caldwell. The interior is colorful and the layout reminds me of being in someone's apartment with the various rooms- definitely a homey feeling. To start we tried the beef empanadas, which were crispy and flavorful, and the calamari which tasted fresh and was served with 2 dipping sauces. The green sauce was our favorite- it was so good, we asked for extra for our calamari plus some to sprinkle on our entrees (we're sauce people, what can we say?). For my entree I got the tallarines verde with steak. I asked for my steak well-done (medical reasons) and it was cooked perfectly- well but not too overdone, not too mention the portion was huge. The pesto pasta was creamy and bright. Delicious food, great service and atmosphere- not to mention BYO- in a sea of restaurants on Bloomfield Ave, Sabor Peru is definitely worth a stop.
